Hello, August! Here’s a run down of new and returning series premiering in August ONLY on MHz Choice!

FULL PREMIERE SCHEDULE

August 7: Homicide Unit Istanbul (Season 3)

MYSTERY | GERMANY | GERMAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES | TV-14

Location, location, location! Homicide Unit Istanbul Season 3 continues to thrill because of the exotic places Inspector Mehmet Özakin (Erol Sander) and his assistant, Mustafa (Oscar Ortega Sanchez) go to in the course of their investigations. Racing from gleaming, urban offices to bazaars to winding roads and farms in the middle of exquisite countryside… it’s all part of the job! And there’s usually a chase or a fight scene where Inspector Özakin gives the perp what for against the backdrop of beautiful, ancient Istanbul. If you’re going to chase the bad guys, why not do it in a beautiful place?

August 14: Mafia Only Kills in Summer (New Series)

COMEDY | ITALY | ITALIAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES | TV-PG

The Italians have created another gem you don’t want to miss! The pitch-perfect Mafia Only Kills in Summer brings you into the world of ten-year-old Salvatore Giammarresi, a keen observer of the adults around him and the ironies of growing up in Palermo in the 1970s. He’s always asking pesky questions – and when he goes at it during the funeral service of a Mafioso, he gets in big trouble with Brother Gacinto, played by Nino Frassica (Don Matteo, The Last Godfather, The Vanishing of Pato). Salvatore’s wide-eyed wonder and harsh judgement of life in Palermo combine to create a funny/sad story that illustrates the tragedies of the time. It’s light in tone, so it’s a definite palate cleanser after Camorra Connection! Think The Wonder Years against a Mafia backdrop.

August 21: Johan Falk (Season 3)

DRAMA – CRIME | SWEDEN | SWEDISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES | TV-14

It’s the end – but who will live and who will die? The final season of Johan Falk starts with a callback to Zero Tolerance, the first film in the series – Falk in a courthouse, contemplating Lady Justice. This older (not necessarily wiser) Johan bears the scars of years of battle, but he’s not ready to give up the fight yet – not while there’s bad guys to pursue and his ever-growing family to protect! Jakob Eklund and Marie Richardson lead an all-star cast of new and returning favorites, chief among the newcomers being Björn Bengtsson and Aliette Opheim ofThicker Than Water fame!

August 7: Tatort: Borowski (New Episode)

DRAMA – CRIME | GERMANY | GERMAN WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES | TV-14

Klaus Borowski (Axel Milberg) is back in all his enigmatic glory in Season 3 of Tatort: Borowski! Get ready for nine new episodes in which he cracks cases with the help of his talented assistant, Sarah Brandt (Sibel Kekilli, Game of Thrones). Some familiar faces surface in this season – like Magnus Krepper (Inspector Winter) playing a Swedish colleague in the season premiere and psychologist Frieda Jung (Maren Eggert) in a wrenching season finale. The stories continue to examine complex issues like poverty and drug addiction, leaving the viewer with more questions than answers. But with Klaus on the case, one is invariably entertained. Nothing intrigues like a man with investigative superpowers, especially if he’s got heart and a social blind spot or two.
