An exasperated husband, too scared to tell his wife he wants a divorce, hires a fading playboy to seduce her in the hilarious Italian feature film A Boyfriend For My Wife.

Premieres March 24th

Based on the 2008 Argentinean romantic comedy Un Novio Para Mi Mujer, this remake is set in Milan and stars Paolo Kessisoglu as Simone (the husband), Geppi Cucciari as Camilla (the wife) and Luca Bizzarri as Falco (the playboy). The director is Davide Marengo, who also helmed the first season of MHz Choice subscriber favorite Inspector Manara.

Let’s learn more about the film from the director and actors in their own words:

“We adapted the original plot of the Argentinean film to environments and situations typical of Italy, within a city that could be Milan like any other foreign city. At the end of the day, certain relationships between people are universal. It’s the story of Camilla, a woman who leaves her beloved Sardinia, where she worked at a talk radio station, to marry Simone and move to Milan, the city where he was born, lives and works. Camilla struggles to settle in, misses her old life, and, because she has no friends or work, she gets depressed, directing her lack of satisfaction and her neurosis on Simone.”

Geppi Cucciari (Camilla)

“Camilla is a woman facing a crisis. She has moved to a new city, has no job and is going through a difficult period which makes her unbearable. She’s dismal, negative, obsessive, antisocial. She has fallen into a dark corner of her soul and doesn’t know how to get out. Unfortunately, her husband doesn’t understand her and can’t make a difference.”

“Simone is a 35-year-old man who is psychologically exhausted by married life, which he shares with a depressed and permanently angry wife. What happens to him is caused by him not really understanding the reasons that have brought his wife to this state, and by only thinking about himself.”

“Tired of the situation, Simone accepts the clumsy advice of his boss, who suggests he should get out of the marriage by using an expert in quick divorces: A man known as Falco, a former playboy who might be able to get her (Camilla) to cheat on him (Simone) in order to justify a separation.”

Luca Bizzarri (Falco)

Luca Bizzarri (Falco)

“Falco is a former playboy of the 1990s, someone who in those years was the undisputed king of the tabloids, and then caused a catastrophe by cheating on his bride-to-be in what was going to be the wedding of the century… Basically, Falco is given the chance to get back into the game after years of oblivion, and, without him noticing, something happens that has never happened to him before: He falls in love!”

“In the acting and scene setting, we strived for a certain realism. In my opinion, it’s a sophisticated, romantic and ironic comedy, which looks (for inspiration) as much as possible towards French cinema. At some points, it’s even moving.”
